The Soldier on Smithdown Road
UK Jewish Film Festival
Pears Foundation

The Soldier on Smithdown Road is inspired by the actions of my grandparents, Louis and Rae Scholes.

1947. Two British soldiers are kidnapped and murdered in Mandate Palestine. In the aftermath of the so-called 'Sergeants Affair’, a wave of antisemitic riots sweep across the UK. In Liverpool, Louis Scholnick, a British-Jewish World War II veteran, is forced to defend his family’s shop from a violent mob.

Winner of the 2023 Pears Short Film Fund at UK Jewish Film.

Co-directed with Thomas Harnett O'Meara.

Ourselves Alone

Ourselves Alone is inspired by the Northern Bank robbery that took place in Belfast in 2004. A bank manager and his wife are taken hostage in their home by brother-and-sister IRA members - Aoife and Sean. They plan to force the bank manager to help them carry out the robbery. But when a third IRA member - Liam - arrives at the house unexpectedly, things start to go wrong.
